Is it illegal to use a GPS car blocker?

GPS jammers are legal to use for personal privacy or security reasons as well as navigation systems or emergency services only. But to a limit. However, It is illegal to operate any radio transmitter without a license, except for certain equipment on certain specific bands (eg FRS walkie-talkies, WiFi, etc.). Because they can mess up critical infrastructure like navigation systems and emergency services.

Why are GPS Jammers illegal?

1. Regulations:

That depends on jurisdiction. I believe that in most states it is illegal to operate a radio transmitter without a license, except for low-power type-approved (in your country) devices within certain frequency bands, Radar, GPS, cell phone, WiFi, etc.

  • In the US, per the Federal Communications Commissionsection 333 of the Communications Act prohibits willful or malicious interference with the radio communications of an authorized station.
  • In Canada, jammers are specifically forbidden to be imported, used, or constructed by the Radiocommunication Act, along with anything else that causes harmful interference to radio communications.

2. Impact on public safety:

GPS is not only in consumer vehicles and services but also in important infrastructure like aviation, shipping, and emergency response systems.

so the GPS jammer will disrupt normal working. However, if you are far  from these places, the car jammer will have little impact on them. In another way, you can choose a short-range GPS car jammer.
